Gary Simmons Everforward Tote

Everfoward, 1993 printed on the front and the exhibition title on the back. 

The sculpture displays a pair of white leather boxing gloves with the title phrase, "EverForward" stitched on one glove and "NeverBack" on the other. Inspired by the phrase, "Forward ever, backward never", the boxing gloves represent sport's violence. With the minimal aesthetic of the white gloves, the audience is encouraged to imagine the visual evidence on the gloves as if a boxer wore them during a match.
