Gary Simmons: "Black Ark" Hoodie

Inspired by Gary Simmons’ sculptural installation ‘Recapturing Memories of the Black Ark’ (2014 – ongoing), this hoodie features the iconic speakers printed on the front and exhibition title on the sleeve's cuff. 

The sculpture serves as a literal and metaphorical platform for music and performance. Inspired by Black Ark, Lee 'Scratch' Perry's famed Jamaican studio, the speakers are composed of materials sourced from the Tremé neighborhood of New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
