Inspired by Hernández's artwork America Remolino I (2024), the shirt features a hypnotic spiral formed by the repeated word "AMERICA." What begins as a familiar word quickly becomes something more complex—a swirling vortex that invites viewers to consider the many histories, identities, and experiences that shape contemporary American life. Born in Lima, Peru, and now based in Miami, Hernández is known for using text as both image and message. His work often examines immigration, labor, citizenship, and cultural identity through humor, observation, and visual experimentation. In America Remolino I, language becomes motion, reflecting the constant evolution of personal and collective identity.

The artwork extends across both sides of the shirt, creating an engaging visual dialogue. A large-scale spiral dominates the back, drawing the eye inward with its dynamic energy and graphic impact. On the front, a smaller spiral formed by the words Pérez Art Museum Miami echoes the larger composition, creating a thoughtful counterpart that connects museum, artist, and audience.

Created in conjunction with This Is America (May 28, 2026 – May 23, 2027), Hernández's work contributes to an exhibition exploring the many stories, perspectives, and lived experiences that define America today.
