A visionary celebration of beauty, joy, and Black imagination. Enter the radiant world of Tyler Mitchell, one of the most exciting photographers of his generation. Wish This Was Real is the definitive early-career survey of Mitchell’s groundbreaking work — a stunning exploration of how photography can dream, heal, and reimagine the world around us. From sunlit portraits to poetic landscapes, Mitchell’s images shimmer with utopia and tenderness. His work expands what beauty, identity, and belonging can look like — offering a new visual language for Black life in the twenty-first century.

Featuring over 100 images that blend fine art, fashion, and personal storytelling, Wish This Was Real invites readers to see through Mitchell’s eyes — where history meets imagination, and every frame feels like freedom. With insightful writing from some of today’s most vital voices — including Anna Wintour, Rashid Johnson, Robin Coste Lewis, Sarah Lewis, and Salamishah Tillet — this book is both a celebration and a meditation: on joy, self-determination, and the extraordinary radiance of the everyday.Dream boldly. See differently. Believe in beauty.
